To make the best guacamole recipe you need to keep it simple and easy. Just 5 essential ingredients you have a delicious dip to serve with chips or spoon over a taco fill in taquitos or spoon over enchiladas.
Just like most recipes best guacamole recipe is easy to make. You need very few ingredients to make it. I make it almost every week and in my home this healthy dip is a perfect staple to serve with chips or tacos in parties and get-togethers. Or, simply slather it over a toast or tortilla roll it up to enjoy a quick meal.
This is actually one of the best recipes to use avocados. Ripe avocados work best and add few more fresh ingredients to make this classic authentic guacamole for making flavors shine through.
All I do when I make guacamole is to balance the flavors. It has to be salted right, the right amount of acidity with citrus, a slight kick from jalapeño and most importantly the avocado is still the Hero of a well-made guac.
Guacamole Ingredients
To make this easy guacamole recipe, you need below-mentioned ingredients.
Avocados – Best avocados are essentials, use Hass avocados which have bumpy crinkled skin. And, you need the ripe ones. To check The ripeness of avocado, gently press it if it does not press and give it’s not ripe. Ripe avocados have a slight give when pressed gently and if there is too much give it’s past ripe and not good.
Always prefer buying hard ones than overripe because you can place them in a paper bag with bananas and leave them on the countertop. Ethylene gas from bananas will help to ripen the avocado faster.
Cilantro – The best flavor you can add, of course, you can skip it if you don’t like it but just saying this one is a great taste booster.
Lime juice – freshly squeezed lime juice just enough to add a hint of citrus.
Sea salt – Right salt makes a huge difference, I use coarse sea salt to bring out the best of flavors.
Chilies – Serrano chilies or jalapeño adds a nice spicy kick but not mandatory.
Tomatoes – diced/ chopped small. But you can skip them if you are not a fan.
Red onion– again the same as tomatoes and I skip them always because I simply love the taste of avocados and I don’t like to overpower it with onion flavor.
How to make Guacamole

Add in other ingredients: add cilantro, Salt, lime juice, chilli peppers ( jalapeño or Serrano ) onion, and tomatoes ( if using).
Stir: everything until combined, taste and adjust the flavors up to your liking and Serve it up!

Tips on How to Make Perfect Guacamole
- I can’t stress enough on perfectly ripe avocado.
- Do not over mash or purée, you need to leave small chunks of avocado.
- To spice it right, you can serve it as it is but adding Serrano chilies or jalapeños is a great taste booster.
- Some people use garlic but in my version I skip it completely because you do not want too many overpowering flavors in this dish. Skip it if you want your guac to taste like chipotle.
- Lime to avocado ratio is important. 1 tablespoon lime juice per avocado is best to add acidity and balance the sweetness. But you can always adjust as per your taste.
Making Guacamole Ahead and Storing it
Freshly made guac is always the BEST. But if you need to make it ahead, after putting it in a jar add a little more lime juice to cover the surface and not allow the direct air to come in contact with this.
Or, cover it by placing a plastic wrap directly above its surface so that it does not come in contact with the air because direct contact with air causes oxidation and hence browning of avocados.
Lime juice helps to prevent browning of avocado.
Still, if it turns brown the good thing is it will just be the surface so simply scrape off the surface with a spoon, and the rest of it is green. It’s good to store in the fridge for up to a week.
Why is Guacamole Healthy dip?
Avocados are high in fats, but these fats are healthy and are the ones that we should consume every day. It is naturally gluten-free. These have more potassium than bananas and have a lot of fiber, minerals, and vitamin B, vitamin A, and K.
How to use guacamole or What to serve with it.
You can use this guacamole recipe in many different ways but I can tell you how I love to serve it.
Of course it is best to dip to serve with chips, spoon over tacos, or loaded nachos. You can spread it over toast, in sandwiches or burgers over baked potatoes or sweet potatoes, egg dishes.
It’s a great and healthy replacement of mayonnaise in most recipes. I use it in layering over quesadilla and wraps, top it on protein dishes to bring out the best flavors, the possibilities are endless!
GUACAMOLE ADD-INS
Although I like to keep it simple you can make it fancy with following add-ins
By adding your favorite fruits, think mangoes, pineapple peaches.
Cheese: soft and salty cheese can be a nice addition, think feta, Queso, goat cheese.
Black sesame just before serving or everything bagal seasoning if you have that.
GUACAMOLE VARIATIONS
once you are done with basic ( which I think is still the BEST) you can try out a few guacamole variations by adding add-ins I mentioned above.
Add in fruits like mangoes, watermelon, pomegranate peaches, or soft salty cheeses like goat cheese, feta. Or maybe sour cream or cottage cheese if you are feeling adventurous! Also, you can spice it up a bit more with hot chili peppers
But again to tell you I am a purist as far as guacamole is concerned and I like it simple easy and fresh. So bring on those margaritas and chips and get the party started or Netflix and chill Maybe 😉
