The BEST Applesauce Bread is super moist and better than a bakery, made with unsweetened applesauce, Greek yogurt, and the prefect blend of spices.
Serve applesauce bread warm with a little butter, apple butter, raspberry, peach, or strawberry jam!
The key ingredient in delicious Applesauce Bread is the applesauce (shocking, I know ;-))! The applesauce adds sweetness, flavor and tons of moisture. Choose a good brand of unsweetened applesauce from the store or go for gold and make my easy Homemade applesauce on the stove, Instant Pot Applesauce, or in the slow cooker (slow cooker instructions are in my instant pot recipe).
How to Make Applesauce Bread:
1. Prep the bread pans: Line the bottom of a 9X5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper (I always like to do this to prevent the bread from sticking to the bottom of the pan). Lightly grease the insides of the pan with cooking spray.
2. Mix wet ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together oil, granulated sugar and brown sugar. Add the eggs, whisking until smooth. Add the applesauce, vanilla, and Greek yogurt and mix until well-combined.
3. Add dry ingredients: Add the flours, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt and stir just until combined–don’t over-mix; a few lumps are ok.
4. Bake. Pour the batter into the loaf pan and spread into an even layer and bake at 350ºF for 45-55 minutes (ovens will vary on exact time) until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean with just moist crumbs. Remove from oven. Run a knife gently around the side of the pan and then remove bread onto a cooling rack.
Make Ahead And Freezing Instructions:
To make ahead: Applesauce bread will stay fresh for 3-5 days, stored at room temperature or in the refrigerator.
To freeze: Allow the baked bread to cool completely then wrap it in plastic wrap and store it in a freezer safe ziplock bag for up to 3 months. Thaw at room temperature.
Variations:
- Add nuts (chopped walnuts, pecans, or almonds).
- Add raisins or other dried fruit.
- Add crumb topping: mix 1/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup, 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, and 2 tbs. melted butter. Press lightly into the top of the uncooked bread just before baking.
- Add chocolate chips.
