As per Hindu calendar after Anant Chaturdashi, there come pitrupaksha or Shradh. A time to express our thanks to our ancestors by preparaing and offering specially prepared food.

There are many customs that are followed during this period and forbidding onion or garlic is one of them. So we have compiled a collection of  Indian vegetarian recipes without onion and garlic for Pitru Paksha.

I have come across many queries on no onion no garlic recipes for Navratri and other auspicious occasions when people make onion garlic free recipes. While listing the recipes, I was surprised that how most of my favourite recipes are actually without onion or garlic in them.

When is Pitrupaksh 2020/ Shradh 2020?

Pitrupaksh 2020 or shradh in 2020 starts from 1st September to 17th September. Usually the period for this is 15 days but this year it is different.

Along with everything else that we have never seen or imagined before Pitrupaksh/ sharadh in 2020 are different too. After 165 years there is a gap of almost one month between shradh and navratri.  Usually Navratri starts from next day when pitrupaksh period is over but this year of 20202 Navratri starts from the 17 October.

If you tell me without onion and garlic food is boring or bland. Let me start by saying it is completely untrue! You can make tasty dishes without onion or garlic very easily.

The other day when my friend talked about how the choices are limited when it comes to sabzi without onion and garlic or vegetarian recipes, I felt that I must share my list of whole lot of  easy recipes that are onion garlic free recipes and still finger-licking delicious!

I swear on my new sets of crystal bowls (they are so beautiful btw :p) that recipes without onion or garlic taste so yummy that you will not even notice this duo missing.
